TED Selected for SE Queensland Electricity Grid Trial

SE Queensland's electricity distributor has selected TED to participate in a demand response trial — one of only a handful of smart home devices chosen to demonstrate how residential pools can help balance the state's electricity grid.


If you have a pool in SE Queensland, this matters to you directly.



What's involved


Pool pumps are one of the largest energy loads in a Queensland home. Collectively, SE Queensland's 375,000 residential pools represent over 400MW of electricity demand — most of it running during at the same time which puts the most pressure on the grid.


The trial aims to demonstrate that pool pumps can be shifted away from those peaks without affecting water quality or your pool's cleanliness.


As a participant, you'll receive up to 9 demand response notifications over the course of a year — each one a request to shift your pump's schedule by up to 2 hours. You tap yes or no. Your total daily runtime stays exactly the same, just moved to a less congested time. That's it.



Why we think this is significant


Getting selected for a grid operator trial isn't something that happens to every home solution on the market. It means the distributor has assessed TED's technology and concluded it can reliably shift load without compromising pool health. For us, it validates what we've built.


For you, it means participating in something that will shape how Queensland manages energy demand for years to come — while saving $225–$450
